The Interlibrary Loan Department processes requests from students, faculty and staff who request to borrow resources not available at UMES or the USMAI library consortium. This service allows you to take advantage of the millions of items available at other libraries for your research, including books, journal articles, dissertations, videos and reports.

In Primo OneSearch, enter the book title, an author or a subject.

Example of a title and author search:

book search ILL

If there are no results, click the WorldCat link under External Search (if none shows up, click Expand my Results).

In WorldCat, the results for the same search should autofill (if not, re-run your search):

Click the title link and then Request Item through Interlibrary Loan under Access Options.

You will be redirected to ILLiad:

  • Logon with your barcode (14-digit number on the back of your HawkCard ID) and your last name. Click the First Time Users link if you need to create an account.
  • Book Request will autofill but double-check that the bibliographic info is correct and all required fields (*) are complete, then click Submit Request.

You will receive an email when the book has arrived (typically takes 2-3 weeks).

  • Your item will be available for pickup at the Interlibrary Loan Desk on the first floor, and your HawkCard ID is required for checkout.
  • The loan period is determined by the lending institution, not UMES.

All borrowed materials must be returned to the Frederick Douglass Library by the due date. Patrons are responsible for any fines charged by the lending library for overdue or lost materials.
